Located in Carlsbad, and serving the local residents of San Diego and Southern California, Clinique Liposculpture performs a broad range of natural fat transfer procedures for plastic surgery patients who want to look and feel their best.
When we do liposculpture, we can utilize that removed fat in many unique and amazing ways. Natural fat transfer is called by many names, including autologous fat grafting (AFG), autologous fat transplanting (AFT), and fat transplantation. The technology of using a patient’s own fat for clinical cosmetic uses was initiated by Sydney Coleman of New York City in the late 80’s and was taught to Dr. Seare at a conference in Salt Lake City in 1987.
Dr. Seare presented his first paper to the Lipoplasty Society in San Francisco in 1989, where he used one of the first 3-D laser cameras to:
- Scan a patient’s face
- Produce a life-like bust of the patient accurate to within 1 mm
- Use putty to augment extremely hollow cheeks on the model
- Determine the volume of fat needed
- And transplant double the fat needed harvested from the patient to the cheeks to achieve the desired volume correction in the cheeks
Since that time, Dr. Seare has been a pioneer of autologous fat transfer in utilizing and studying the use of fat for both aesthetic and cosmetic uses and also reconstructive uses. Dr. Seare has used AFG in almost every part of the body with amazing results. Dr. Seare has been involved in research and clinical studies trying to understand the adipogenesis and to obtain higher adipocyte survival that is critical to autologous successful fat grafting. He is currently a co-investigator for Cytori, a San Diego-based company studying fat, its stem cells and uses including for treatment for heart attacks and stroke.
